Overview

These are the instructions to assemble a single Typhoon-2 fan pod.

You will need to have the following parts ready to be assembled –

  1. Typhoon-2 hat (3D printed)
  2. Typhoon-2 front shroud (3D printed)
  3. Typhoon-2 shoe (3D printed)
  4. 140x38mm Bgears PWM fan (Purchased)
  5. 140mm wire fan grill (Purchased)
  6. Typhoon-2 back shroud (3D printed)
  7. Typhoon-2 center shroud (3D printed)
  8. 4x M4-0.7 x 60mm flat round head machine screws (Purchased)
  9. 4x M4-0.7mm nylon lock nuts (Purchased)
  10. 8x 4x8x2mm Nitrile rubber O-rings (Purchased)
  11. Any type of glue such as gorilla super glue gel (Purchased, not pictured)

Assembly Steps

  1. Pull the fan cable through one of the holes in the center shroud.

2. Push fan into the center shroud – this might take some effort because of close tolerances.

3. Use glue to secure the o-rings to each fan mounting hole on both sides. Give the glue some time to dry a bit before continuing on.

4. Carefully position the fan grill on the back of the fan on top of the o-rings.

5. Put the back shroud on. You can temporarily use the 4 bolts to to help line up the fan grill with the mounting holes before pressing the back shroud into the center shroud.

6. Put the front shroud on. Make sure the fins of the front shroud lines up exactly with the fins on the Bgear fan. If they do not line up, rotate the front shroud 90 degrees and check again. The first picture shows the fins incorrectly lined up. The second picture shows them correctly lined up.

7. Mount the PCB board to the Typhoon-2 shoe.

No picture yet – TBD.

8. Connect the fan cable to the fan header on the PCB.

No picture of PCB yet.

9. Put the shoe on the pod.

10. Put the hat on the pod.

11. Push the bolts through the four holes from the front of the pod. I suggest using a cordless electric wrench to make this job easier.

12. The back of the pod should show only a few mm of each bolt. Put the lock nut on each one and secure them lightly snug. Please do not over-tighten as this can crack the 3D printed shrouds.

Congratulations on getting this far! Repeat these instructions for the second pod.
